Devotion To Santa Muerte Also Means Devotion To Ourself

One thing that Santa Muerte continues to tell me about my path is that yes I may be devoted to her, but I also must be devoted to myself.

Within this journey it is very easy to get swept up in our connection with her. We want to mean all we can, give her the best offerings, build amazing altars. We want to be loud and proud sometimes too, and that is something she appreciates. With that being said though our love for her shouldn't take away from the Neverending relationship with ourselves. If you find you are pouring more into the connection with mama but neglect yourself, that isn't putting into practice the ways of her scales.

Her scales represent balance and we as her devotees must maintain that within our own lives. But what does that look like in a practical sense?

• Set up an altar for yourself:

This can be your vanity, a spot on your bathroom counter, or wherever you get ready for the day/night. It should have things that speak to your energy. Think if you were a spirit/god/goddess/deity, what offerings would you place there?

• Tend to your physical altar (BODY)

This is where taking care of yourself physically is important. That's showering daily, doing your spiritual cleanses, moisturizing, any skincare routines, nails, hair etc. Get intentional with it to. Let your body wash be a powerful cleanse and the lotion protection. This also means eating what is right for you, and also upkeeping on your general wellbeing to the best of your ability.

• Take time to pour into your hobbies/passions

What are some things you genuinely LOVE to do? Do more of that. For myself personally I've gotten back into coloring and drawing. It's been a fun way to take my mind off everything else and just be in the moment.

These are some examples that I myself have implemented as a devotee that has in the past put my mama muerte before myself. She never asked me to do that and rest assured she gathered my ass together about it.

You are still a worthy devotee if you take time for yourself.

No you're not being mean or disrespectful if you prioritize yourself FIRST.

It's much better to give to santa muerte from a place of overflow, gratitude, and genuine love than from a place of depletion or obligation.

Thank you santa muerte for guiding us, your children in our personal paths. Thank you for reminding us that we are worthy of putting ourselves first, and for empowering us with the ability to intentionally create habits that nurture our overall wellbeing. So it is.
